NFL Week 3 Sunday Preview

September 23, 2023 Articles Comments Off on NFL Week 3 Sunday Preview

It is Sunday which means it is time for the NFL preview.

Below are the 5 biggest games to look forward to for week 3.

Atlanta (2-0) @ Detroit (1-1) 1:00 PM EST

This matchup features two of the upswinging teams in the NFL.

The Lions were talked about all offseason as a dark horse Super Bowl contender and they promptly beat the Chiefs in week one, which only enhanced the Super Bowl talk.

Then last week Detroit took a step back by losing to the Seahawks at home.

The Lions are one of the most efficient teams in the NFL and will look to continue as they are -3 favorites.

On the other side is an Atlanta team that will run it’s opponents to death.

The Packers experienced that first hand last week when Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier combined for 172 rushing yards in the Falcons win.

That backfield is lethal and many teams will have a hard time stopping it this year.

If the Lions want to win it will come down to stopping those two playmakers.

Denver (0-2) @ Miami (2-0) 1:00 PM EST

Is it too early to call this a make it or break it game for the Broncos?

Probably, but Denver needs to get in the win column soon or the memories of last year will come to the forefront of everyone’s minds.

The issue the past two weeks has been second half collapses.

To make matters worse for Denver their past two opponents, the Commanders and Raiders, are not considered to be among the NFL’s elite.

The same cannot be said for Miami, who has genuine Super Bowl aspirations.

In the article I posted last week I said that the Dolphins are Super Bowl contenders and I still believe that (assuming Tua Tagovailoa stays healthy).

Currently the Dolphins are -6 favorites, and if Denver wants any chance of staying in this game they will need to play a full game of football.

Russell Wilson will need to make some big plays, and the Broncos will need to limit the Miami dynamic duo of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

Buffalo (1-1) @ Washington (2-0) 1:00 PM EST

The Washington Commanders are 2-0, which is likely a surprise to most of us, but their credentials will be tested today.

The Commanders have had success running the ball behind Brian Robinson as well as solid quarterback play from Sam Howell.

They are coming up against one of the best teams in the NFL in the Buffalo Bills, who can beat you in a variety of different ways.

There is Josh Allen’s mobility, multiple weapons at the wide receiver and tight end positions, as well as a solid defense.

This game will come down to how well Washington can stop Josh Allen, and how much success Brian Robinson can have.

If Washington can succeed in both of those areas then they have a good chance to cover the +5.5.

Los Angeles Chargers (0-2) @ Minnesota (0-2) 1:00 PM EST

It is officially desperation time for both of these teams.

Both come in following 0-2 starts and are desperate for a win.

The Chargers are capable of scoring points, but consistently fail on the defensive side of the ball, despite the fact that they have plenty of defensive talent.

For the Vikings, they are experiencing reversion to the mean.

After going 11-0 in one score games last year Minnesota is already 0-2 in the exact same scenario this year.

Currently the Chargers are +1 so odds makers view this game as essentially a pickem.

For the Vikings sake they better hope it does not come down to a one score game……

Pittsburgh (1-1) @ Las Vegas (1-1) 8:20 PM EST

To wrap up what is an overall underwhelming Sunday slate we have the matchup between Pittsburgh and Las Vegas.

Neither team can be viewed as among the NFL’s best, but both teams do have some star players.

For the Raiders, they have wide receiver Davante Adams who is among the best in the NFL.

For the Steelers, it is star defensive end T.J. Watt who played a key role in their win last time out vs the Browns.

Look for both players to play key roles in their team’s fortunes.

If the Raiders can score points then they have a good chance to win this game.

It may sound obvious, but over two games the Steelers offense has lacked consistency, so if they have to come from behind that will spell bad news for Pittsburgh.

Lastly, the Raiders opened at +1.5 but are now -3 favorites so clearly bettors are on the Las Vegas train.

Happy Betting!
